On Monday morning, we headed from Split to Mostar. Bosnia & Herzegovina is
so so so beautiful. This is a country that I had no intention on visiting when I moved to Europe. Honestly, just because it was off my radar and I had so many major cities I wanted to visit. I am really glad Nick researched it and decided to add it for a day to our Greece and Croatia trip. It is well worth visiting for the scenery alone. However, the food and culture were both very interesting too.
On the way to Mostar we stopped in a town called
Pocitelj. We grabbed a quick lunch then hiked to the top of the hill where there are some
castle ruins.

We then headed over to Mostar. My first impression of the city was a young boy literally trying to climb in our FIAT with us... he was begging for money and it really crushed me. I was a bit nervous after that honestly. But we checked into our hotel (
Hotel Almira), which was very nice for the area and I recommend it if you go to Mostar. After that I became a bit more comfortable when we started to walk around. The water in the river is just perfect. The color is so serene. One side of the river is
Muslim and the other is
Christian. The markets in the old town are endless with various trinkets and treats. We went into the mosque that is closest to the river bank. We climbed up to the top of the for the view and it looks like a movie. It truly looks like it is
straight out of a movie scene. This is the best view of the Stari Most which is the old bridge that connects the two sides of land over the river. The pictures my phone was capturing were beautiful so you can imagine what it will look like on Nick’s fancy camera. *
apologies for the absolute load of the same type of picture below but I couldn't bring myself to delete any of them*
After we finished soaking in the view, we walked around for a bit. You can still see buildings absolutely ruined from the war and the cemeteries will bring you to tears. It was a very moving experience. We had some yummy Bosnian coffee then headed over to the other side of the bridge to snap a few more shots looking up at the bridge. For dinner we ate some Bosnian food at
Hindin Han. It was very good and we had some local Bosnian wine as well.
Overall I would give so much credit to Bosnia & Herzegovina. It was a
gorgeous country and I really appreciated the opportunity to check it out.
