schnee, weihnachtsmarkts & thanksgiving

Here's my last post before I head home for the holidays. I am so excited to be heading back to the states next Monday for THREE weeks. One more quick trip to Leipzig this weekend to see some beautiful Christmas markets with Nick & a few of our Hamburg friends, before I party in the U.S.A.

Here's a quick recap of the last few weeks which include going to see Kacey Musgraves in Hamburg, checking out some Christmas markets and having Thanksgiving Dinner with all of our Hamburg friends. We also got to see our first gorgeous snow in Germany. It was truly spectacular!

A few Fridays ago {november 20th to be exact} we got to see Kacey Musgraves perform in Hamburg. She is incredibly good live and I would highly encourage anyone that likes her to see her in person. It was so interesting to see the Germans sing country songs and Nick and I may have been the only people there that knew all the words. Check out some amazing pictures below - unfortunately videos aren't working currently {our internet stinks} but feel free to check out my instagram where I had posted one! That same weekend we experienced our first real snow in Hamburg and it was absolutely gorgeous. I hope we get to see it a few more times especially if it is cold! I prefer the snow if it is going to be cold, haha! The pictures below are from the window in our apartment - we have an incredible view.

Last week, Nick and I visited some of the Hamburg Christmas markets. Wow, can Germany sure do Christmas. There are four main markets in Hamburg plus a ton of smaller ones. A lot of them are similar from the standpoint of they have wurst, sweets, and of course the infamous glühwein (the famous hot wine drink - you MUST have this if you come to Germany around Christmas). The largest market is the Rathaus one which is in the main square of the government building. It has a massive Christmas store with plenty of goodies! Last Friday, we went back to Lüneburg (a city we visited in August) and checked out their Christmas market. It's only a 30 minute train ride from Hamburg. It was also very cutely decorated. I may be "christmas-ed" out before Christmas... JUST KIDDING! What a wonderful and festive season. We are very very lucky to get to experience it in Germany.

Then on Saturday, all the Hamburg people got together for a massive Thanksgiving Dinner! Our friends hosted it at their apartment. Nick and I made potato salad & sweet potato casserole. Talk about yummy! I was so pleased that both of them turned out so well! The sweet potato casserole was straight from my mom's mom's recipe! All the Americans really enjoyed showing all the others what Thanksgiving was about! :) Sunday was my birthday but Nick and I had a very relaxed day.. I ate a little too much for Thanksgiving, haha, and had quite the stomach ache. We decided just to hang out around the apartment and watch Mad Men (our latest Netflix kick!) Nick took me out dinner for my birthday on Tuesday to a nice steakhouse and we had a blast. He got me a gorgeous green winter jacket (displayed below) and I've been proudly wearing it everyday since haha! He's a top-notch gift giver!

...and with that I'm off to the States. I'll post about our Leipzig trip from there or when I arrive back in Hamburg. Hope everyone has enjoyed reading about our 2015 European adventures. They've been a thrill and we are looking forward to continuing them next year!
