surveying split & its surroundings

On Saturday morning, Nick and I woke up bright and early to head out on the boat tour of the islands off of Split. The view from our hotel was spectacular. We stayed at Le Meridien. While this hotel would have been entirely too expensive usually, I used points so it was well worth it. It's a little outside of the main downtown area of Split. Our itinerary for the boat trip consisted of Vis, Hvar, and Budikovac Bay. We went through a company called Travel Agency Portal. They were very professional and picked us up from our hotel. The tour guide was full of knowledge and a downright cool dude - I'd recommend if you are headed to Split. We saw the blue cave and green cave and had time to explore all of the cities on the islands. It was a really really good tour if you only have a day or two to do these islands. If we had more time or the next time we go we will most likely stay on one of the islands for a few days. This day trip was a very good overview though.

The blue cave was spectacular. The color is truly one of a kind. After the blue caves we stopped by a small fishing town called Komiza. We then checked out a beach called Stiniva Bay that is ranked among the top 10 in the world. The water color - WOW. Check out the green/blue color that is captured just with an iPhone. Next was the green cave. The green cave has a teeny hole up top that allows the light to come in. Just enough to give it this thrilling green color. Apparently, some people on yacht week like to jump through it. Can you say dangerous, haha, no thanks! It's way too small of a hole for me to jump through. We then stopped on this small island called Budikovac bay, which only has one inhabitant that lives on it year around. They treated us to a lovely lunch there. Nick also met his long lost friend, Darnell the donkey. Please see below for the pictures that captures their first moments... love at first sight I dare say. After we headed out of there, we went to Hvar where we spent the last few hours of our trip climbing to the top of the city for the amazing view and just enjoying the city. When we got back to Split we hit up a restaurant called Bokeria. It was very good. I had a sea bass & for those who know me they know I’m not the biggest seafood fan. However, it was quite lovely and we got to try some amazing Croatian wine. Nick had a steak for his dinner, shocking!

On Sunday morning, we woke up and enjoyed the view from our hotel for awhile *eating breakfast outside was so lovely*. We then went into Split and started our walking tour through Split Walking Tours. We got to see so many places that Game of Thrones was shot. My mind was seriously blown!!! Nick and I have really enjoyed watching the show so it was very interesting to check out some of the places where Daenerys keeps her dragons and where the famous sword fights took place. After the tour, we checked out a lunch spot called Diocletian’s Wine House. I would highly recommend it for whoever goes to Split. We splurged a bit and bought some Rose champagne. Top notch! The brand was Tomac (picture included below) you need to try it especially if the weather is a bit hot! After lunch, we climbed to the top of the bell tower at the church. Absolutely gorgeous views of Split + the Mediterranean. We then proceeded to see some churches and an art gallery which was very intriguing. It ended up being free and Nick and I have already picked out a few pieces for our future home ! (*I wish*). We then grabbed a few craft beers and headed up the hill to check out the sunset. It was well worth the hike up for the sights. We grabbed a snack at this restaurant that overlooked the city to wrap up the night then headed back to Le Meridien.

On Monday, Nick woke up bright and early to take some pictures of Split and I woke up just long enough to check out the gorgeous sunrise from our hotel room. Yes that view of all those yachts is from our hotel room. Such an amazing view and room. Thanks Accenture for allowing me to get all those SPG points from traveling to Chicago. :) We headed out to Mostar after a quick breakfast. We stopped a few times to take pictures of the breathtaking views. Thanks Split & the surrounding areas for being absolutely perfect.

pure perfection
