navigating norway

first off, let me say.. HAPPY BIRTHDAY TO MY LOVE.. twenty-eight will be a great year. Love you!

Last Friday Nick and I headed to Stavanger, Norway. We took this teeny propeller plane to Copenhagen where we connected. Ummmm, I really am not the biggest fan of even flying in general so I was NOT digging this plane. It probably did not help that we were sitting directly next to the propellers so I just got to continuously stare at them for an hour. We got into Stavanger quite late and Nick wanted to wake me to wake up at 4:45AM on Saturday so I instantly hit the sack when we got into the hotel.
casual propeller plane...
so cool to fly right above the clouds!

On Saturday, I did end up waking up at 4:45AM after only sleeping about four hours the night before... ouch. We started the early morning off with driving down to catch the ferry. We got to take our car on the ferry which was pretty interesting. We got to the start of the trail at about 7am. This trail we decided to do was Preikestolen aka Pulpit Rock. The hike was really cool. Most of it was this rock path that could be quite treacherous if you did not have the right shoes on. It had also rained a bit the days before so there were some slippery bits. Nick and I both took our share of tumbles that resulted in a scraped hand for me and a scraped elbow for Nick... no worries guys, we are fine. We hiked up to Pulpit Rock and wow the view was marvelous! It was even kind of cloudy when we were up there and it was still so glorious to see. After we finished our hike we headed back down the trail and decided to grab a bite to eat then go on the Fjord cruise. The Fjord cruise was also a great experience where we got to see this area by boat. It was about 2.5 hours long. We got to see all different types of things on the cruise and even go to see all the way up 650m where we had hiked earlier that day! After exiting the ship from the Fjord cruise, we had a three hour drive ahead of us to get back to Stavanger - complete with sheep laying in the middle of the road and 17 switchbacks. DO NOT GO HERE IF YOU GET CARSICK. No joke, you'd be throwing up within 5 minutes. We stopped a few times for Nick to snap some pictures and finally got in at about 9pm. We decided to go to the burger joint that had the top rating for restaurants in Stavanger. Um... YUM. This place is fabulous so definitely check it out if you are ever in the area. It is called DØGNVILL BAR & BURGER.

ohhhhh helllooooo... that yummy burger place <3

On Sunday morning, Nick and I woke up a smidge late and got a breakfast at the hotel. We then walked around Stavanger for a bit. We went back down to the harbor and then went around to see the older houses. We checked out the Stavanger Dom, which is the old church. Then we decided to go to the Norsk Oljemuseum which is the oil museum of Norway. This place is actually REALLY cool. I usually am not the biggest fan of museums but I really enjoyed this one. If you are in Stavanger, you have to check out this museum. It is also all-age appropriate if you do happen to have children with you. After this we grabbed some lunch at this very cool burrito place called Los Tacos we headed out to Sverd i Fjell. This monument is marvelous. So huge! I did not realize it would be as big as it was. The skies opened up some for us to take some pictures next to the three swords. After spending about an hour there it was time to head to the airport and back to Germany.

Norway is just so gorgeous and we cannot wait to go back. We have another hike we HAVE to do so we will definitely be making our way back up at some point!
