diggin' düsseldorf

As mentioned in my previous blog, I started working three months ago in Germany. It's been a great experience but wow has it taken my life away!!! Luckily Nick and I have continued to try and travel on the weekends which has led to many early hours and long nights for me. I have been working some in Bochum which is outside of Düsseldorf so a few weekends ago Nick and I decided to do Düsseldorf for the weekend. We unfortunately got stuck with a super bad {rainy and cold} bout of weather but overall it was a pretty relaxing but activity-filled weekend.

Friday night Nick took the train down and we met in Düsseldorf. We went to a brewery there that has their local beer and it was quite yummy. I ate some schnitzel! It was pretty relaxing just to hang out and about around the city.

yummy german food!!

On Saturday, we headed out to walk around for a bit before going to an art museum. There was a lovely flower market in the middle of town with these breathe taking tulips. Afterwards we took a walk down the long promenade called Königsallee. Then we headed to an art museum. Potentially one of the oddest experiences of my life. I am not even sure what genre it was - as Nick said it's just "art." It was mostly installations. There was a massive net at the top of the building and Nick and I got to suit up and climb all around on it while looking hundreds of feet down to the floor!! After we wrapped up our time at the museum, we headed to the RhineTurm for some views of the city. Like I mentioned, we did not have the best weather but we stopped for some bubbly and relaxation. We then walked around to see some local architecture that was very cool. The area is known for its modern architecture. Afterwards, we hit up a local pizza place that I 100% recommend if you ever make it to Düsseldorf (it is called Pizzeria Pinocchio) - however, do not get anything spicy unless you are in love with spicy food like me! it literally took my breathe away.!

literally gorgeous!
some weird net thing to walk on..

Luckily, Sunday we had much better weather! Even though it was a bit chilly, it was quite sunny! We took a tour that was hosted by the tourist center since our normal tour company did not have a tour in Düsseldorf. Unfortunately, it was in German and English and of course we were the only English speakers, whoops! So it ended up being us trying to comprehend a lot of German haha. We also took another trip to the other weird art museum! Düsseldorf is absolutely the mecca of the weirdest art stuff I have ever seen haha! Overall, it was a nice city and I'd love to check it out again this summer when I'm still working in Bochum! It is a quick trip for us and every additional city I see in Germany I come to appreciate this country even more + the amazing blessing and opportunity that Nick and I have been given to live here.
